In case you missed the Energy Observer’s stop in Singapore

Energy Observer is a catamaran like no other. It is the world’s first hydrogen-powered vessel and it is loaded with other energy forward equipment such as solar panels, wind towers, fuel cells, and battery storage. This has allowed it to sail from port to port without generating any carbon, fine particles, or noise.

The French vessel and its crew stopped over in Singapore from March 10-20th, 2022 and docked at Sentosa’s ONE 15 Marina. This is its only scheduled stop in Asia, according to the Straits Times, and follows a maritime technological partnership that was signed by Singapore and France last year.

So, you may be curious as to how much power this vessel packs. Let’s break down the numbers:

62kg of hydrogen are stored onboard

20kw fuel cell on board

1MW of electricity can be generated by the fuel cell

1MW of thermal energy can be generated by the fuel cell for heat and hot water

4Nm3 is how much hydrogen per hour the electrolyzer can produce

2,576L of hydrogen storage capacity onboard in 8 tanks of 322L each

34KW capacity of the onboard solar panels

2 x 12m tall wind towers

106KW capacity of lithium-ion battery storage

8 crew members are supported

In addition to all of this, the Energy Observer ensures all creature comforts are accounted for including a dishwasher, hot showers, flat-screen tv, and 105L reverse osmosis system so that the crew can travel the world without the need to return to port to re-fill potable water tanks.

Aisha Chen has left Canadian Solar, where she was a Head of Procurement for the Module Business Unit to join Lightsource BP as their Global Category Manager for PV Modules.
Hyunwook (Leo) Shin has left Nel Hydrogen where he was Senior Project Manager to join Renova as Director of Wind Farm Development.
Rachel Chin has joined Climate Impact X as Commercial Manager for Origination and Sales of Carbon. Previously, she held the position of Senior Commercial Manager for LNG at SK Gas.

RWE has hired Joo-Hoon Yoon as Project Developer for Offshore Wind. He has moved from KCH Group where he was Project Development Manager.
Taeyong Kang has left his role as Senior Manager for M&A at Hyundai and joined Macquarie Group as their Project Development Manager & Controller for Offshore Wind.
Logan Yang has joined Mitr Phol as Business Development Manager. He was a Project Manager with Maiora Renewables previously.
Yoonseong Bae joined Orsted as a Senior Grid Connection Manager for Offshore Wind. Before, he was with Hanwha Solutions as a Technical Manager for ESS.
RWE has also hired Taekeun Kim as Senior Legal Counsel. Previously, he was at Hanwha Solutions in a similar capacity.
Joyce Chen left GS Caltex where she held the role of Legal Counsel for Construction, to join JERA as a Legal Manager.
Kiwan Park joined Total Eren as a Senior Project Manager. Previously, Assistant Project Manager for Northeast Asia at Vestas.
