{"id":13943,"date":"2022-10-30T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-29T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aurex-group.ap.applyflow.com\/russian-ukraine-war-creates-lng-job-opportunities-in-the-us\/"},"modified":"2024-11-21T14:03:17","modified_gmt":"2024-11-21T06:03:17","slug":"russian-ukraine-war-creates-lng-job-opportunities-in-the-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aurexgroup.com\/insights\/russian-ukraine-war-creates-lng-job-opportunities-in-the-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Russian-Ukraine war creates LNG job opportunities in the US"},"content":{"rendered":"<article class=\"blog-body clearfix\">\n<ul>\n<li>\u200b<span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">Russia\u2019s war in Ukraine continues to cause supply chain issues.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">As European countries seek alternatives to Russian gas, American energy companies are capitalizing on the demand.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">As a result, we anticipate seeing an increased need for talent and more job opportunities in the energy sector. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">With Russia flexing its economic muscles in an effort to pressurize countries opposing its war in Ukraine, Europe has had no choice but to seek alternatives to Russian gas. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">Perhaps unsurprisingly, the US gas industry grabbed this opportunity with both hands. A letter arrived at the White House in response to the anticipated energy deficit, it suggested escalation of US gas production and improvement of opportunities for exporting to the Euro zone. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">The letter received the desired response from Biden\u2019s administration. The demands have become policy and have created opportunities for new pipelines and export facilities. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">\u201cI can\u2019t even begin to tell you how much the momentum has changed for companies in the United States that have wanted to bring their projects forward and just haven\u2019t been able to get long-term contracts,\u201d said Fred Hutchison, president of LNG Allies. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">LNG Allies, asked for six gas export applications to be expedited, and three weeks after, the US Department of Energy had agreed to two of them. (Cheniere Energy\u2019s Sabine Pass project in Louisiana and its Corpus Christi operation in Texas). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">This will help the Biden administration\u2019s commitment to supply the European Union with at least 15 billion cubic meters of gas, by the end of 2022. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">The US only began shipping LNG overseas quite recently (in 2016) but it is now reported to be the largest exporter worldwide. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2>\u200b<span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">What will this mean for the US domestic LNG market? <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">Although it is the Russia-Ukraine conflict that has sparked this new direction for the US market, it is suggested that the new gas infrastructure won\u2019t be operational for several years, causing concern for the impact this will have on the US\u2019s domestic supply. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">Clark Williams-Derry, analyst at the Institute for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ieefa.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ea5a0a;\">Energy Economics and Financial Analysis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">, suggested that with so much LNG export is planned, that it will likely cause prices for domestic American market are likely to rise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">\u201cIt\u2019s beginning to eat into the amount of gas available to domestic consumers,\u201d said Williams-Derry. \u201cWe will see very severe impacts on domestic US gas prices. We will see the impacts for as long as the eye can see.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<h6>\u200b<\/h6>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">Texas focuses on LNG production <\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">In the shale fields of Texas, producers are rushing to capitalize on this new trend in the space, and struggling to keep up with demand. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">This isn\u2019t unique to Texas either (Texas is the largest producer of natural gas in the US, with Pennsylvania a close second). Around the world, the domestic supply of natural gas is struggling to keep up with demand. Describing this trend, Leo Mariani, an Austin-based analyst at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mkmpartners.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ea5a0a;\">MKM Holdings LLC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">, said: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">\u201cThe commodities folks have somewhat ignored the big growth that we\u2019ve seen in the gas-rig count versus last year. It seems like oil\u2019s gotten hit hard with concerns over the economy recently and gas has quietly just done really well on a relative basis this year.\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h6>\u200b<\/h6>\n<h3>\u200b<span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">How will this impact gas and power recruitment? <\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">We anticipate this trend to have pronounced knock-on effects for <\/span><a href=\"\/natural-resources\/\"><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">energy recruitment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\"> \u2013 namely in the form of increased demand for skilled workers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">For example, when gas prices spiked earlier this year, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/price-volatility-rising-demand-revive-us-natural-gas-trading-2022-04-08\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ea5a0a;\">Reuters reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\"> that an investment bank in the US, TD Securities, was \u201cbeefing up its natural gas trading desk\u201d. A similar pattern was evident elsewhere, with various LNG companies recruiting gas trading and supply teams. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #1e1e1e;\">We have seen an overall increase in natural gas and LNG-related jobs resulting from a significant increase in energy investment and increasingly volatile natural gas markets.
